100% Update: Running Late & Love at First Sight

I know, I know, Nelson and all those other G&G Addicts are going crazy. It has been a very long morning. I had planned to go home this morning, pass the torch to the CaveBear (Chris), and spend some time with Courtney for her B-Day. [Note: Thanks to all those who sent her an email. It really, really cheered her up and got me out of the doghouse. Click here if you still want to sent her a Birthday Wish.] What ended up happening instead was round after round after round of good reports. So I am running late, but here is the update:

5:00am: Mom arrived and got to meet Nurse BlackSlippers. Apparently, Dad knew Mom was there because his blood pressure (not ICP) started to rise. Apparently, Dad knew Mom was there because he opened his eyes. . . . [He probably saw Sleeping Beauty...Get it? Mom's his Princess Bride, but she's a walking zombie....me funny...]

8:45am: Deb, who I will now start calling SisterFargo because she talks like every character in that movie, yah, and I went to the TraumaRounds. The best way to describe TraumaRounds is there is one main medical dude with a large clipboard, 5 semi-main medical dudes and gals with medium clipboards, and between 5-10 other non-main medical dudes and gals with mini clipboards who are walking together through the TraumaCondo. They stopped at Dad's Unit #9 and started their thing. Their "thing" sounded more like a dull day on the stock market floor, with random medical dudes and gals with clipboards of all sizes speaking out random words. I knew a few of the words, but not many. [Bet they don't know what res ipsa loquitur means or what a no-damages-for delay clause means in a construction contract...back at you doc!] Here's what we learned in English:
  1. Dr. $$, the main medical dude today, said that Dad's condition has not gotten worse. (To us believers, that means Dad's condition improved.) Dr. $$ reported eloquently that there are no acute cardiac issues (good news); another chest tube will be taken out (only one left); and Dad is breathing on his own, plus a little push of air (8Resp) because it is like "he is breathing through a straw and we want to help him."
  2. Dr. NiceNeuro, who I think is Dr. BigVoice's partner in crime, reports that Dad is maxed out on HeadPainFunkyJuice, but that's okay because Dad has maintained his ICP at a steady place all night, and even chilled out around 7-9 this morning.
  3. Someone, don't remember who, said that Dad's incision from top to bottom belly (remember dissecting that frog in 6th Grade?) looked great. . . No bleeding . . . No swelling . . . . Good closure.

10:50am: Mom and Pastor LittleBabies went to pray with Dad before he sat up for his All-You-Can-Drink milkshake tube. When Mom entered the room, Dad's blood pressure (not ICP) began to elevate. . . [He knows she's there!] . . . They prayed, she tickled his arm, his blood pressure went down, he grabbed her hand while Nurse ThroatCleanerDude cleaned Dad's mouth. And then. . .

Get this . . .

Are you ready? . . .

He opened his eyes multiple times. . .

. . . It was love again at first sight.

I heard it...did you??? The collective breath-filled sigh as we all read that last line..."IT WAS LOVE AGAIN AT FIRST SIGHT." My heart is so full it is aching. Reading your words brought me to God's word. I Cor:13 (NIV), yet again new meaning to a very familiar text. "7 It (Love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Indeed, Pat and Ray continue to exhibit this truth. Glory be to God.

Matt, I believe you must have a zillion pink wires in you, or maybe it's because you're a lawyer and are familiar with putting words to 'paper' but very few men are as open to expressing their feelings (about God and Family) as you are. I mentioned this to Jay and he said it's because of your faith and closeness to God - don't tell him but he's right.

Your mom and dad have something special and are a wonderful example of what marriage vows are all about...care, love and honor each other and not just in the good times but through it all...in sickness and health. I love your family more with each passing update/day.

PS: Mandy and Jessica are right on about becoming 'addicted' to your updates/blog - I've become a G&G Addict!

Pastor Ray's words(also God's words) have always been so comforting to me in times when I needed a boost. Once again and not surprisingly, I get a boost from these blogs of yours. Do you know, really know, how many lives are truly being touched here? God does make good out of bad. I see and hear your faith and I know that the Great Physician hears your prayers. You all are awesome and I am so richly blessed because our paths have crossed. I love you all!!
