100% Update: Last Call

Must get sleep...eyes shutting every few minutes...but wanted to give you the evening update before I sought out one of those lovely "can't seem to recline all the way back" chairs on Second Floor.

Nurse BlackSlippers (Yes, can you believe it? Just like RubySlippers, but BlackSlippers), joined us for her first time. Chris and Deb made the first visit this evening, then Chris and I, then Chris and I again, then Mom'sLad and I, then Mom'sLad and I again, and finally OakTree and I. Here's a summary of the evening's neurological testing:
  • Movement on hands = good
  • Movement on legs = good
  • Movement on head = good
  • Movement on eyes = much better...Dad opened eyes more regularly
  • ICP = maintained good rate during all testing
  • ICP = overall maintained 12-15

After having gone to look at the car today [Memo to Self: Follow-up with insurance company tomorrow], I am amazed that Dad did not suffer more damage to the lower extremities. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on t.v., but Dad's left knee shows significant swelling. I tell BlackSlippers and Nurse J2 (who happens to be working at the Trauma Condo next door) . . . both ladies agree about the swelling . . . BlackSlippers she says she will follow-up with Dr. BoneFixer. [Memo to BlackSlippers: Follow-up with Dr. BoneFixer in the morning.]

As I leave for the evening/morning/day (whatever time you want to call it), I tell BlackSlippers to make sure she watches over Dad. Genuine smile . . . she says, "I will." Thanks. Here are Dad's 24-hour goals:

  1. Get rest tonight.
  2. Keep heart strong.
  3. Keep lungs strong.
  4. Keep mind strong. (Remember God's Word, Dad!)
  5. Get up in the morning.

What would a "last call" update be without some kind of return to the Word. Bubbles shared with Mom some words of encouragement from John 14. I did not hear that entire conversation, but later, in my quiet time, I read the passage. Later, later, in my quiet time with Dad and Chris, I read the passage again. Later, later, later, in my quiet time with OakTree, I read the passage again. Later, later, later, later, in my quiet time with Mom'sLad, I read the passage one final time for the evening. As I reflect on Dad's goals for tomorrow (see above), you tell me whether the Bible is the Living Word:

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

28 You heard that I said to you, "I go away, and I will come to you." If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

29 Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.

30 I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;

31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.

(John 14:26-31)

Matt,
The last time I saw Ray & Pat was a few weeks at an event in Memphis - the theme was evangelism and during a "resource sharing" time, Ray shared w/ us about a study he'd used "Becoming a Contagious Christian" (which btw, I came home, told Victor about it, and he's now using it) but also about the evangelism he's been doing at Woodbine in the neighborhood - he spoke w/ such passion. I say all of that in reference to your prayer requests concerning his memory remaining in tact when it comes to the Word and his calling etc. Whose he is seems so entrenched in him that it is more than a memory, but who he is. I will continue to pray, but want to encourage you to know that his faith, his calling, are not so much a part of his memory, but are sewn into the fabric of his very being. Keep in mind that I have no theological training and I just pretend to be smart - but of this I feel sure.
Remind Pat that she asked me on that trip to pray for Ray - tell her I continue to.
PS I am familiar with many of your Woodbine characters and smile when I read your descriptions of them - they're a priceless bunch :)
