100% Update: Afternoon Delight

4:00pm: They brought some toothpaste, a toothbrush, a comb, and some lotion up to Dad's Condo Unit this afternoon. Isn't it funny how some of the people up here are so gloomy (i.e. not letting our hope clear their clouds), while other optimists are ready for Dad to pick up some Crest, shine his chipped smile, and grease back his hair. Here's what happened this afternoon:
  1. Nurse Cheerleader, chipper as ever, was starting some neurological testing. Sedation had been turned off for about 1/2 hour, and when Cheerleader pinched Dad's leg right above the thigh, those feet started tapping. Ditto with the hands.
  2. Enter the Condo, Nurse Ruby Slippers, who almost immediately called me fat! (I'm sad.) Well, she said it in more words than that. Ruby Slippers gave me the "Big Guys Have A Harder Time Metabolizing (And Therefore Wearing Off) Sedation Medication" speech. Since Dad and I are "big guys," that may be a reason why neurological testing is not that responsive after they turn off the funky juice. That was not going to stop Ruby Slippers from trying to wake up Dad.
  3. "RAY, WAKE UP!" she yelled. "RAY, OPEN YOUR EYES!" she screamed as she pinched the nerves between his thumb and pointer finger. Dad twitched his feet. Dad moved his hands. Dad even opened his eyes for a second. Ruby Slippers called my Mom over so that she could see, but Dad was too tired to play any more dog and pony tricks.
  4. In the end, it was reported that Ruby Slippers woke up 5 other patients while trying to talk to Dad...you go girl!
  5. Wanna hear some better news? ICP remained 12-13 during the neurological testing.
  6. Dr. Big Voice came by at the end. I said, "Things are looking good, right? Better than yesterday." Big Voice said "We'll see." And he departed. (grumpy)

I don't blame you for being grumpy...after all you just want answers, I remember feeling the same way during mom's last hospitalization. Those answers are the little nuggets we wait for all day. But, remember, Dr. Big Voice is only human. Rest assured that you will continue to get the answers you need...Father God will not disappoint!
Praying for and loving you all,
Mandy
